When to buy a robot vacuum for less: the calendar and the traps

The best time to buy a robot vacuum is usually Black Friday (Friday 27 November 2026) and Cyber Monday, followed by Amazon's big events (Prime Day in summer, the October Prime deals) and the launch of a new generation, which often pushes the previous model down. The January sales are a good second chance. In this category the crossed-out price is especially misleading: the only reliable benchmark is the price history of the exact model you want.

Best month to buy a robot vacuum: the calendar

This table sums up the usual market patterns in France and much of Europe. It's qualitative guidance, not a promise: a given model can drop outside these windows, or not drop at all during them.

Why robot vacuum prices fall so much (and so fast)

The market is highly competitive and brands refresh their ranges at a brisk pace. A model often launches at a high price, then steps down over the months, especially once its successor is announced. As a result, the same robot can cost very different amounts depending on whether you buy it at launch, during a major event or at the end of its life.

The recurring bargain: last year's generation

From one generation to the next, changes often involve suction power, the docking station or obstacle detection. If your home is simple (few rugs, few cables on the floor, no pets), the outgoing model often does the same job for much less. Compare spec sheets line by line before paying for the new one.

Black Friday or Prime Day: should you wait for an event?

If your current robot still works, yes: waiting for the next big event costs little. But an event doesn't guarantee the lowest price of the year. Some models sell for the same price on Black Friday and a few weeks later, while others drop further during an unadvertised one-off deal.

The approach that works: shortlist two or three models now, watch their prices for several weeks, then compare on the day with what you've seen. On Amazon, the price history even lets you look back in time, and UniverTrack can show it as soon as you add the product.

Fake discounts to watch for in this category

• Inflated launch prices: a "40% off" calculated from a price almost nobody paid.
• Pre-event price hikes: a price that climbs a few weeks before Black Friday so it can "drop" afterwards.
• Look-alike listings: the same robot sold under a slightly different name (colour, station, accessory bundle), which makes comparison harder.
• Marketplace third-party sellers: sometimes fanciful "was" prices, and warranty and after-sales service to check.

In France, when a discount is advertised, the reference price must be the lowest price the seller charged in the previous 30 days (article L112-1-1 of the Consumer Code, based on the EU Omnibus directive). Which robot vacuum should you choose before tracking its price?

Tracking the price of the wrong model is pointless. Set your criteria first, then look for the right moment.

Navigation	Laser (lidar) or camera for accurate mapping and full room coverage; entry-level models without advanced mapping clean more randomly.
Mopping	Basic mop pad, rotating pads or pads that lift on rugs: useful if you mostly have hard floors.
Docking station	Self-emptying bin, or even mop washing and drying: more convenience, but a higher price and a bigger footprint.
Obstacles	Detection of cables, socks or pet mess on more advanced models.
Height	Compare with the clearance under your furniture (sofa, bed).
App	No-go zones, room-by-room scheduling, local operation without a cloud account if that matters to you.

The real cost of a robot vacuum

The purchase price is only part of the bill. A robot uses wear parts: side and main brushes, filters, mop pads, bags for the self-emptying station and, eventually, the battery. Before buying, check that these consumables are easy to find at a reasonable price for the model you want, including from compatible brands.

Two official French benchmarks help you judge longevity:

• the repairability index, a score out of 10 that vacuum cleaners sold in France, robots included, have had to display since 4 November 2022; it takes into account documentation, disassembly and spare-part availability, among other things;
• the repair bonus, deducted directly from the bill at a QualiRépar-certified repairer for out-of-warranty vacuum cleaners in France.

Across the EU, a two-year legal guarantee of conformity also applies to any purchase from a business, discounted or not.

Robot vacuum buying checklist

1. List your needs: floor area, hard floors or rugs, pets, stairs, clearance under furniture.
2. Shortlist two or three models, including at least one from the previous generation.
3. Check the repairability score and the price of consumables.
4. Note each model's price several weeks before the event you're targeting.
5. On the day, compare with your notes, not with the crossed-out price.
6. Check who the actual seller is (retailer or third party), the warranty and the return terms.
