When to buy a cordless stick vacuum for less: calendar and pitfalls

The best time to buy a cordless stick vacuum is usually around Black Friday (late November), during the winter and summer sales, or just after a new generation launches, when the previous model is cleared. It's a heavily promoted category: prices move often, and so do misleading "was" prices. The real saving comes down to two things: buying at the right moment, and choosing a model whose battery can be replaced at a reasonable cost.

What month is best to buy a stick vacuum?

Stick vacuums aren't seasonal like air conditioners: you need one all year. Their prices mainly follow retail events and range updates. Qualitative guidance for France:

New generation launched: why the old model becomes a deal

The big cordless vacuum brands refresh their ranges regularly, with no shared calendar: each manufacturer has its own rhythm, and launch dates aren't always announced far ahead. The pattern, though, often repeats:

1. a new model arrives at full price, heavily promoted;
2. the previous generation stays on sale for a while, then its price falls as retailers clear stock;
3. the last units disappear, sometimes after a final markdown.

Between generations, differences are often modest: a display, a sensor, an accessory, slightly different runtime. Compare spec sheets line by line. If the new features don't change how you'd use it, the previous model is often better value, on one condition: its parts, and above all its battery, must remain available.

Watch out for "cousin" model numbers

The same vacuum often comes in several versions: colours, number of tools, a second battery, a different suffix depending on the retailer. Two prices are only comparable for the exact same model number and box contents. A pricier bundle can be worth it if it includes a spare battery, or it can simply be a way to make comparison harder.

Are Black Friday stick vacuum deals real?

Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday on 30 November 2026. Stick vacuums are among the most promoted products, which doesn't mean every discount is worth it.

The battery: check its replacement price before buying

On a cordless stick vacuum, the battery is the part that wears most. With age and charge cycles, runtime drops. After a few years, the question comes up: replace the battery, or the whole vacuum? The answer depends on choices you make on the day you buy.

Three checks before you pay

• Is the battery removable? Some click out in seconds; others require taking the vacuum apart.
• Is it sold separately, and for how much? Check the brand's spare parts site or retailers. Compare that price with the vacuum's: a battery costing a large share of the appliance's price changes the maths.
• How long are spare parts said to be available? A battery you can't find in three years makes the vacuum disposable.

The French repairability index: a useful shortcut

Since 4 November 2022, vacuum cleaners sold in France (corded, cordless and robot) display a repairability index out of 10. It takes into account documentation, ease of disassembly, spare parts availability and their price relative to the product. At a similar price, a higher score is a good sign.

What changes in 2027

The EU Batteries Regulation provides that from 18 February 2027, portable batteries built into appliances placed on the market should in principle be removable and replaceable by the end user, with some exceptions. It will apply to products placed on the market after that date, not those already sold, so for a 2026 purchase the checks above still matter.

What to compare between two stick vacuums

• Real runtime: the headline figure often refers to the most economical mode without a motorised brush. Look for the runtime in the mode you'll actually use.
• Floor type: rugs, wooden floors, tiles, pet hair. The brushes included matter as much as the motor.
• Weight and handling, especially for stairs or ceilings.
• Bin capacity and how easy it is to empty.
• Filtration: washable or replaceable filter, and the price of spare filters.
• Noise level, where stated.

Warranties and consumer rights in France

• Two-year legal guarantee of conformity when buying new from a business; an item repaired under it gets an extra six months of cover.
• 14-day right of withdrawal for online purchases, as a rule (check who pays for returns).
• Free take-back of your old appliance: the seller must take back an equivalent appliance when you buy a new one ("one for one").

In such a promotional category, drops can last just a few days and vary between retailers. Checking several sites every evening takes time, and without price history you can't tell whether "-30%" is a genuinely low price or a price raised just beforehand.
