Cdiscount price tracker: how to see a Cdiscount price history

Updated : · 6 min read

Cdiscount does not show a price history: a product page only displays the current price and, during a promotion, a crossed-out "was" price. To see how a price really moves, you need a Cdiscount price tracker, either your own notes taken at regular intervals or a tool that records the price at each check and builds a dated history from the day you start tracking.

Cdiscount is one of France's largest online retailers, so English-speaking shoppers in France (or buying from abroad) often land on it. This guide explains why Cdiscount prices move so much, what the crossed-out price legally means, the realistic ways to build a price history, and how to read it.

Does Cdiscount show price history?

No. Like most retailers, Cdiscount doesn't publish a price chart. On a product page you will usually see:

  • the current price of the featured offer;
  • sometimes a crossed-out price and a discount percentage;
  • the seller of that offer (Cdiscount itself or a third-party marketplace seller);
  • sometimes other offers for the same product from other sellers.

Nothing tells you whether the price was lower last week, or whether it was raised just before a sale. That missing context is exactly what you need to judge a deal.

Why do Cdiscount prices change so often?

Cdiscount is both a retailer and a marketplace, so several things can move the displayed price, sometimes from one day to the next.

Sold by Cdiscount vs marketplace sellers

The same product can be offered by Cdiscount and by several third-party sellers, each with its own price, shipping cost and delivery time. The featured offer isn't fixed: if a seller cuts its price or an offer runs out, a different offer can move to the top. The "product price" can therefore change without anyone running a promotion. Always check who sells and who ships.

Flash sales and big shopping events

Cdiscount regularly runs flash sales ("ventes flash"), limited in time or stock, and takes part in major shopping events such as French Days, Black Friday and the official French sales. Countdown timers push you to decide quickly, which is precisely when a price history would help most.

Cdiscount à volonté: the displayed price isn't the whole story

Cdiscount offers a paid membership, Cdiscount à volonté, listed at €29 per year on its official page in September 2026. It mainly brings delivery benefits on products carrying the programme label and a cashback-style balance ("cagnotte") on some products. Those perks don't necessarily show in the public price, so when comparing dates or retailers, compare the displayed price plus shipping first, then factor in membership benefits separately if you're a member.

What does the crossed-out price on Cdiscount really mean?

Since 28 May 2022, article L112-1-1 of the French Consumer Code (the French version of the EU "Omnibus" rules) requires any announced price reduction to show the prior price: the lowest price the trader charged in the 30 days before the reduction. For successive reductions over a set period, the reference is the price before the first cut. Our guide to the 30-day Omnibus rule covers it in detail.

It's a useful safeguard, but it has limits worth knowing before you trust a percentage:

  • It only looks back 30 days. A price raised several weeks before an event can then be legally "cut".
  • It doesn't cover comparisons with other traders. The law explicitly excludes cases where a trader compares its prices with other businesses' prices, so check what the crossed-out figure refers to.
  • It's per trader. On a marketplace, each seller has its own history; one offer's crossed-out price says nothing about other sellers.
  • It doesn't tell you the price is low. A product can be cheaper than 30 days ago and still pricier than last spring.

How to track Cdiscount prices: your options

There's no hidden button that reveals a Cdiscount price's past. These are the realistic options:

MethodWhat you getLimits
Manual log (spreadsheet, notes)A reliable history for a few products, freeTakes discipline; short drops and flash sales are easy to miss
Dated screenshotsProof of the price and seller on a given dayTedious and hard to use over time
Amazon history tools (Keepa, CamelCamelCamel)Rich histories… for AmazonThey don't cover Cdiscount pages; only useful to compare with the same item on Amazon
Price comparison sitesA snapshot of several retailers' pricesNot necessarily the history of the specific Cdiscount offer you're looking at
Price tracking toolAutomatic checks, a dated history and alertsThe history starts the day you add the product

Tracking a Cdiscount price manually, step by step

For one or two products, a manual log works well if you stay consistent:

  1. Pin down the exact reference: model, capacity, colour, year. Similar names can hide very different prices.
  2. Log the price and the seller each time, with the date. A seller change often explains a price change.
  3. Add shipping so you compare the total you'll actually pay.
  4. Check on a regular rhythm, for example a few times a week, and more often as a big event approaches.
  5. Record the crossed-out price when it appears, to check it against your own log.
  6. Set a target price based on the lowest prices you've seen, and stick to it.

How to read a Cdiscount price history

After a few weeks of data, the signals are fairly easy to read:

What the history showsWhat it means
The "sale" price is close to the usual price, or even the highsNot a real deal: the advertised discount changes little
The price climbed shortly before an event, then "dropped"Be wary: the cut mostly offsets the rise
The price hits or nears its lowest recorded levelProbably a good time, especially for a planned purchase
The price jumps around between checksOften a seller or stock change: check the offer, waiting may pay off
The price has been flat for a long timeA one-off drop during an event is possible, not guaranteed

It's also worth checking the same product on Amazon: see our Amazon price history guide.

Using an automatic Cdiscount price tracker

If you're watching several products or don't want to miss a flash sale, a tool can do the checking for you. With UniverTrack, you paste a Cdiscount product link; the price is checked automatically on a regular schedule and every check is saved. You get a dated price history, a "good time to buy" indicator and an email alert when your target price is reached.

To be clear about the limits: the history starts on the day you add the product. UniverTrack cannot recover earlier Cdiscount prices, so start tracking a few weeks before a planned purchase or a big event. If the same product is also sold on Amazon, you can add it from each retailer and see both offers grouped on one product page (Pro plan). Setup details are in our guide to tracking a price on Cdiscount.

When is the best time to buy on Cdiscount?

There's no guaranteed date, but a few pointers help:

  • During major events (official sales, French Days, Black Friday), offers are usually more numerous. That's also when crossed-out prices are most misleading, so let the history decide.
  • Outside events, prices can drop too, for instance through competition between marketplace sellers.
  • By category, some products follow known cycles (new models, end-of-line stock): see our general guide on the best time to buy.

The safest rule doesn't depend on the calendar: know the product's usual price before the event, and only buy when it falls below your target.

Frequently asked questions

Does Keepa work for Cdiscount products?
No, Keepa and CamelCamelCamel are built for Amazon. For a Cdiscount product you need to log the price yourself or use a tracker that accepts Cdiscount links. See our Keepa alternative guide.
Can I see a Cdiscount product's past prices before I start tracking it?
Not with the methods described here: a manual log or a price tracker builds the history from the day you start. That's why it pays to begin a few weeks before you buy.
Do Cdiscount marketplace sellers have to follow the 30-day rule?
Article L112-1-1 of the French Consumer Code applies to the trader announcing the reduction. On a marketplace, each seller has its own prior price, which doesn't reflect other sellers' prices.
Why did a Cdiscount price change when there was no sale?
Most often the featured offer changed: another seller has a different price, or the previous offer is no longer available. Check the seller name on the product page.
Does a Cdiscount à volonté membership lower the product price?
It mainly brings delivery perks and a cashback-style balance on eligible products, which don't always show in the displayed price. Compare the public price and shipping first, then add those perks if you're a member.
Is there a free Cdiscount price tracker?
A manual log costs nothing. UniverTrack offers a 14-day free trial with no commitment to track Cdiscount products and get alerts.
